Why addressing anxiety at work matters
- Certain things make us all anxious. That's normal. Presenting to a group, getting feedback, or dealing with sudden changes at work may make everyone a little jittery. But when you get up with a knot in your stomach day after day, or suddenly start panicking, anxiety can take over your life. It can impact your productivity at work and affect your relationships where you increasingly avoid people in situations that worsen your anxiety. But most importantly, it impacts your emotional stability, genes, and the rest of your body, too. With the world as it is, anxiety has been on the rise globally. In fact, anxiety disorders are the most common psychiatric disorders. And I want you to know that you are not alone. I'm Dr. Srini Pillay. I'm a Harvard trained psychiatrist with a background in clinical psychiatry, brain imaging research, executive coaching, and leadership development. As the former director of an anxiety disorders program, I can tell you firsthand that people are so relieved when they realize they don't have to live with anxiety forever. That's why we're addressing anxiety at work, one of the main areas of our lives where we show up for ourselves and others. With a few small steps, your life could change significantly. In this course, we'll examine the difference between just having a bad day versus anxiety that needs clinical attention, when and where to seek help, how to talk to your colleagues about this, what to do to assist in your recovery, and how to manage and lead with anxiety in mind. I hope this primer in managing anxiety will give you the guidance you need to help you live the fullest life possible.
